Bridget Jones’s Diary 4 filming begins as fan favourite returns | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Bridget Jones star Renee Zellweger has been spotted filming new scenes on the street ahead of the release of the franchise’s fourth film. The new movie, titled Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, will see Renee reprise her titular role alongside Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson.

Candid evening photographs taken from the set of the new film show the 55-year-old Hollywood actress dressed as Bridget. Renee’s co-star Sally Phillips, who fans will remember as Shazza, was also pictured on set.

The fourth film takes its title from the latest Bridget Jones novel, which was published in 2013. In the book, Bridget returns in her 50s as a widowed mother of two children following the tragic death of Mark Darcy, who was portrayed by Colin Firth in the earlier films.

It has been confirmed that Hugh’s character, the badly behaved but dashing Daniel Cleaver, will return after being absent from the last film. New cast members also include Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) and Leo Woodall (One Day), who is rumoured to play Bridget’s much younger love interest.

Author Helen Fielding is said to have written the script and explained that she decided to write Mark Darcy out of the latest story because she did not want it to revolve around Bridget being “a smug married”. The film is set to be released on Valentine’s Day 2025 in the US, while a UK date has not yet been announced.
