Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian has revealed how he once landed his mother in trouble with the law. The young filmmaker was attempting to film a murder scene with his parent and godfather Hugh Grant when things took a turn.
22-year-old Damian recently released his directorial debut, Strictly Confidential, in the US. Liz, 58, stars in her son’s steamy movie and also serves as a producer on the erotic movie.
Ahead of the project’s release, Damian spoke to Tatler about how he’d been fascinated by cinematography since the age of eight. He told the publication that his mother had gifted him his first camcorder and a “despot” had been born.
Before jumping into Strictly Confidential, the star admitted he used to rope his friends and family into featuring in his “self-written” and self-directed short films. “I dragged whole suitcases of props, lights and costumes on every vacation,” he explained.
“My finest moment was nearly getting my mother arrested en route to St Moritz when I made her chase my long-suffering godfather Hugh Grant around Zurich airport with a fake dagger, bellowing that she was going to skin him alive.”
Liz and Hugh, 63, famously dated for 13 years between 1987 and 2000.
The pair were known as one of the “it couples” of the ‘90s before parting ways amicably.
The former couple remained fast friends following their breakup – with Liz naming him as Damian’s godfather in 2002.
Speaking about their relationship earlier this year, the actress told Andy Cohen that she “never” truly considered having children with the Love Actually star.
“You can never regret anything that didn’t happen,” she explained. “Of course, we used to think about it because we used to fight all day.
“We used to look in the mirror next to each other and say, ‘It’d have to be my eyes.’ ‘No, my eyes.’ ‘Your hair.’ ‘No, my hair!’ … So we used to bicker for hours about who would look like who. And of course, none of his children look like him, as it happens.”
As well as Hugh being Damian’s godfather, Liz is the godmother of one of his five children.
She also serves as the godmother of Patsy Kensit and Liam Gallagher’s son Lennon, and David and Victoria Beckham’s sons Brooklyn and Romeo.
Strictly Confidential is out for digital release from May 13.
