Martin Compston admits wife not knowing he was famous helped his ‘paranoia’ | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Martin Compston revealed his wife Tianna Flynn had no idea who he was when they first met. The Line of Duty star, who turns 40 today (May 8), met Tianna at a hotel bar in LA in 2013.

As the actor’s career hadn’t taken off in the States by that point it meant Tianna “had no scooby who he was”, allowing their romance to develop naturally.

The Scottish star admitted it was the best thing for them as actors are often “paranoid” about being liked for who they truly are and not because of their fame.

“It really helped that she just liked me for me. With actors, we’re all self-conscious and paranoid,” he said in a previous interview with The Telegraph.

He added: “He’s the biggest support in my life, the person I talk to most for advice, she’s the person to tell me to shut up and stop overthinking things.”

The couple tied the knot at Martin’s family chapel in Greenock, Scotland, in 2016. They welcomed their first child; a son named Brodie in 2020.

Martin became a household name playing DI Steve Arnott on BBC’s hit crime drama Line of Duty. The police drama first aired in 2012 and ran for six series until 2021.

While there has been no confirmation of a seventh series, viewers are hoping the award-winning drama, also starring Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, returns to screens at some point.

Last month, Martin revealed which EastEnders icon he would like to star on the show. He feels Mick Carter star Danny Dyer would make a “great bent copper” on the series.

“Danny Dyer would be a great shout (as a ‘bent copper’ on the show),” he told The Mirror: “Danny is something else, honestly, he is one of our treasures.”

Martin added: “He is a wonderful actor — it would be good to see him in there.” Sharing an update on the future of Line of Duty, Martin confessed there are no “immediate plans” due to the cast’s busy schedules.

He said: “I’m sorry. They’re some of my closest friends, we all love Jed (Mercurio), and we’d all love to work together at some point, but there are no immediate plans.

“It’s just getting us all together and stuff. We’d like to but, yeah, these things are a bit complicated. But there are no immediate plans.”
