Piers Morgan admits ‘divorce is never easy’ as he talks ‘eventful’ time at GMB | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Despite his fiery departure from Good Morning Britain in 2021, Piers Morgan marked the tenth anniversary of the ITV show with a memorable statement. The esteemed morning show celebrated the milestone today, with Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley leading the celebrations.

In honour of the occasion, ITV viewers enjoyed a montage of some of the high points from the set, featuring none other than Piers in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.

On social media, some fans expressed their disappointment that the 59-year-old host wasn’t given more screen time during the anniversary tribute, with one critic commenting: “A half-second clip of Piers Morgan in your ten-year mashup is a disgrace to the 50% of the pairing who put the show on the map.”

However, the outspoken television figure greeted the situation with humour and a heartfelt message about his tenure on the long-running programme. Piers posted two contrasting images on his social media platforms on Monday, demonstrating both his first day on the GMB set and a reminder of his dramatic exit in 2021, jesting that “divorce is never easy.”

Celebrating a decade since the launch of Good Morning Britain, Piers took to Twitter and Instagram with a nostalgic post. “Happy 10th anniversary to Good Morning Britain”, he reminisced.

“I spent five fun, eventful years there, and loved every minute. Here’s a picture of me on my first (April 13, 2015) and last (March 9, 2021) day… divorce is never easy! “

His 8.7 million followers quickly responded, with one writing: “Still miss you Piers!!”

Another added: “They lost the best man on TV.”

Some viewers expressed they had stopped tuning in after his departure, with one commenting: “Stopped watching after you left.”

There were also suggestions that he should return to mainstream TV, as a fourth person penned: “You should go back to mainstream television, especially GMB. It’s certainly gone down hill since you left.” (sic)

Piers’ controversial exit from the morning show was sparked by an on-air clash with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The heated debate saw Piers being vocally sceptical of Meghan’s revelations about her mental health struggles and experiences of racism within the Royal Family, famously stating he “didn’t believe a word” she said.

During a heated debate, Alex picked apart Piers’ constant critique of Meghan, defending the Sussexes.

He said: “I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan, or had one, and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to.

“Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her,” he argued, leading to Piers abruptly leaving the show.

Following this dramatic moment, an ITV spokesman confirmed his swift departure from the programme. He was subsequently given his own TalkTV programme, which has recently relocated to YouTube.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX.
