Sam Smith ‘turned away’ from Met Gala after-party, source says | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Sam Smith was luckily enough to snag a coveted invite to this year’s Met Gala.

However, after the high-profile event ended, the evening was derailed when they were reportedly denied entry to a Met Gala after-party, leaving them turned away at the door.

Smith graced the Met Gala carpet with boyfriend and fashion designer Christian Cowan. The couple made a striking appearance in coordinated black and white custom suits — made by Cowan himself — held together with stemmed roses.

Smith donned a black suit with a tulle skirt and a light-blue tie, while Cowan sported a white suit with matching trousers and a gold tie. The pair have been an item since 2023.

Following an evening filled with high fashion and a surprise performance from Ariana Grande, celebrities flocked to after parties across New York City. However, it appears that Smith encountered some difficulties gaining entry.

It seems this didn’t put too much of a dapper on Smith’s night though, as they were later spotted at Dua Lipa’s party at Rob Toma’s Hearsay in the Meatpacking District, among other celebrations.

A source revealed that Sam and Christian were the life of the party, saying they “kept the dance floor smoking hot.”

It’s not uncommon for celebrities to face rejection; even Kylie Jenner was turned away from a star-studded bash at the Box last year when it hit full capacity.

During the high-profile fashion event of the year, Christian opened up to Vogue’s red carpet hosts Ashley Graham and Gwendoline Christie about his and Smith’s Met Gala ensembles. He explained: “Because it’s supposed to be about back in time, we wanted to reference the 1940s, Oscar Wilde – a queer icon. We’re both queer and British so an English rose, I thought was perfect.”

He added: “And early on in our days, I gave Sam a metal plated rose.”

Smith expressed their adoration for Christian’s designs, stating: “I always feel beautiful” in them.

Reflecting on the Met Gala experience, Sam shared: “I couldn’t have dreamed of a better companion for the occasion. I think of the Gala as fashion Christmas-just as fabulous and just as serious, given the incredible work done at the Met.”
