Dancing on Ice star Greg Rutherford has revealed he feels numb after the tragic death of his dog. The 37-year-old took to Instagram on Friday night to share a montage of images of his beloved pooch as he announced the heartbreaking news.

Detailing that they found out Gus had cancer, Greg shared with his followers that the dog died on Thursday night. Admitting to being devastated by the news, Greg paid tribute to Gus and how important he was in his life.

He wrote: “I am utterly heartbroken. We’ve had a really tough week as a family finding out Gus had cancer. He sadly passed away last night and I just feel numb.

“Between the tears and pain of missing him so much, I’m longing to see his silly face or feel him rest his head on my feet or lap. Gus has been such an important part of our lives.

“For me, he’s been my training partner and best mate. Every step session, every run, every bike ride and walk. He was always with me.”

Greg told his followers that he’d talk out loud to Gus about his plans as if he understood him and would lovingly be greeted by a happy paw or lick in return.

He signed off his tribute by telling people “They’re never just pets, they’re everything good.”

Some of the images showed Gus enjoying walks in the countryside, sitting in a dirt hole in his garden and trying to jump in a car window next to Greg.

In another snap, the pooch could be seen posing on a fallen tree next to the Olympian’s son as they enjoyed the golden sun in the woods.
