Playboy mansion part-demolished and rebuilt in upgrade costing millions | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The famous Playboy mansion is getting a massive makeover, with parts of it being knocked down and rebuilt in a whopping $10 million (£7.9 million) upgrade.

The stunning grotto and backyard, where Hugh Hefner used to throw some of LA’s best parties, will soon be home to a mostly new mansion, bringing the land back to its former glory.

However, the renovation hasn’t been easy, taking over four years so far – and it’s not finished yet!

The property was bought about seven years ago.

Architect Richard Landry has been given the job of completely redoing the home with a $10 million makeover. It’s going to keep some parts of the original house but add a touch of modern style.

Aerial photos show how the work is coming along, although there’s still a lot left to do. But the pictures do give us a sneak peek at what the fancy new home will look like.

This project was described as a “subterranean addition to an existing three-story, single-family dwelling,” according to documents given to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.

The staff house was partly knocked down to make room for a 4,400 sq. ft. extension, which will include a gym and a garage.

As for the main house, it’s a huge 18,000 sq. ft. and it’s just getting a bit of a makeover.

They’re planning to change the old house but keep some of its style. They will make it bigger and give it a fresh look.

The kitchen, family room, bathrooms, and a powder room will all be new. The Daily Mail says they’ll add skylights to let in more sunshine.

The big house looks like it has two parts: one for living and another that might be for guests. It’s very fancy and looks a bit like an old castle.

In the garden, there’s a big swimming pool being made. The plants are not finished yet, and you can see the bare earth.

But there are big bushes around the edge like a wall.

Daren Metropoulos, who is a businessman and lives next door, bought the place. He wants to join it with his own house.

He said to the Daily Mail: “Hugh Hefner was a visionary in business, a giant in media and an iconic figure of pop culture whose legacy will leave a lasting impact.”

He got the house in 2016, before Hugh Hefner passed away. Hugh was allowed to stay there until he died at 91, which was a year later.

A few years after that, Daren thought it was time to update the house.
